This is Surrounder playing a punk show at The Handlebar in Pensacola, FL on 12/17/2022. Surrounder is an experimental punk band that flirts with performance art, combining beautifully melodic noise and explosively dynamic drums with a high capacity for emotional depth.
A Little Extra History
Some of my earliest YouTube videos starting out were recordings of musical projects that Ty Cummings (from Surrounder) happened to be in, as well as all our mutual musician friends who frequented the same scene. All of which exist in the beginning of this YouTube channel from 2009-2010.
Regardless of image quality, those videos are some of the very few audio/visual representations of those bands in existence from that era. All our bands played together quite a bit, and I got to see some really inspiring shows that still have a profound impact on how I approach music, poetry and art. These events ultimately started me on the creative path I'm on today.
So I just wanted to express to all of you how incredibly important it was for me, on a deeply personal level, that I recorded Surrounder, and how elated I was to be able to comeback with such a great opportunity after such an agonizingly long hiatus.
